Sarabande bed and breakfast

Sarabande is a serene oasis in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is the most modern, sleek, yet somehow homey and comforting (AND family friendly?!) bed and breakfast I have ever visited. The following is an honest review of our family’s stay at Sarabande in July 2021.

Upon arrival, you’ll find that parking at Sarabande is easy! There are plenty of spaces right out front, and the main entrance is clearly visible. Two substantial wooden doors open to a beautiful courtyard, where entrances to all guest suites are located. Typically, the innkeeper arranges to meet guests in the common area and directs them to one of the five rooms on the property. We happened to arrive very late, so we were provided self check-in directions ahead of time.

Communication was fantastic. From the morning of our arrival, Innkeeper Amy was in touch with us. Our day did not go according to plan (imagine an epic thunderstorm rolling into the Grand Canyon during a hike back to the visitor’s center), and so our ETA kept moving back further and further. Amy easily rolled with our punches, and kept in touch with us throughout the day. She even sent us the menu for breakfast the next morning, which we selected using the markup feature on my phone. (More about breakfast later. OMG).

After easily checking ourselves in, we opened the door to the kids’ room, made up and ready for sleep. My sigh of true gratitude and relief was audible. Our kids were cranky and it was LATE – but their beds were ready. to. go. (It was at exactly this moment I knew that Sarabande would easily receive a positive review from the Kids Come With family). Our room was more prepared for us (and for our children to sleep) than any other hotel we had visited since the beginning our two week road trip. It was just what we needed.

Once our kids were down (with a quickness), we were free to explore the rest of our suite, and found even more surprises waiting for us! A refrigerator with water and drinks! Bath robes! Cookies! Tea! Luxurious soaps I could not wait to use in the shower. We relished in every special touch.

Overall, our suite was comfortable, cozy, modern, and well-appointed. The Southwestern design did not feel “overdone,” but instead combined beautifully with midcentury modern choices. There were French doors, a gas fireplace, and a private patio we could not wait to explore in the morning!

We woke up to beautiful natural light, and the world seemed quiet. I reluctantly left the fluffy cloud that was our comforter to find our coffee on a tray outside our room, delivered around the time we requested. We were given the option to receive the daily pastry with our coffee (UM – YES, OBVIOUSLY), and specify the type of creamer/sweetener to be delivered with our coffee. We took our breakfast out to our private (and, dare I say, magical?) patio.

Sitting in our private courtyard, we felt so removed from the city, from the hundreds of miles we had driven the day before, from concerns… not too far from our kiddos though, because they somehow sensed we had achieved about 10 minutes of this magical serenity before they climbed on top of us for some bites of our almond plum cake.

Shortly thereafter, our food arrived, left again on a tray outside our room. I couldn’t wait to lift the covers to find our gourmet breakfast underneath!

We requested the “chef’s choice” for our breakfast, and the chef certainly did not disappoint! We were served “huevos motuleños,” which (according to Sarabande’s website), originates from the city of Mosul in the state of Yucatán. Eggs, fried bananas, cheese, peas, and black beans were served with grilled tomatoes and herbs. Sarabande states that they accommodate all dietary restrictions, and this was absolutely consistent with our experience!

I wish we had extended our stay longer at Sarabande. If we could do it again, I would have chosen to stay two nights, with a day to explore the city (or perhaps Santa Fe) in between. While it is certainly not inexpensive, it was worth every. single. penny, at a grand total of $235.32 for the night.

Our review of Sarabande seems to match the consensus… As of the date of this blog being published, Sarabande has received a 5 STAR RATING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ on TripAdvisor, Google, and Yelp!

With family out west, and cross-country roadtrips certainly in our future, I (and my taste buds!) eagerly look forward to our next stay at Sarabande Bed and Breakfast.
